A bio of Miguel Suarez

Miguel Suarez has a personal history steeped in photography. The nephew of a photo journalist; Miguel’s father arrived in Spain from Peru with a Yashika and a Hassleblad.
Inspired by the German photographer Michael Wesley who captures the gestation/birth of a building using two-to-three year exposures, Miguel has always been interested in long exposure stating “the capture of the movement and stillness tells a lot”.
Whilst studying for a degree in architecture at UEL Miguel undertook a project which involved the manufacture of sophisticated pinhole cameras and hand made filters. The aim of this project was to study longer exposures through a static installation. “I am trying to portray a movie in a still image. I wish to capture a long moment, a history, a life cycle/span”. 4 seasons in one exposure is a body of Miguel’s work which uncovers how the play of light morphs a space over time.

This is architectural photography that considers approaches to a world sold on reality as the benchmark, yes; Miguel Suarez is a complicated man. “The camera is a tool to express information about a subject with a single shot being the beginning of a creative process”.
Framing for post production, Suarez has an experimental appetite piqued by new technology and methodology. Whether in the dark room or post production suite these are the moments when the raw creativity of Miguel Suarez is exposed; he knows that a poor shot may always be improved under the red light.
